Because of the increase in cases, the LASC has determined that it will greatly improve the administration of pending civil cases by referring certain cases to mediation to resolve as many disputes as early as possible.
The LASC has determined that referring appropriate cases to mediation as early as possible will increase the likelihood of case settlements thereby reducing the burden on the Court to try cases which can be settled before trial.
Mediation has been proven to be a successful process for resolving litigated disputes that benefits the parties as well as the Courts. The Court Referral program was designed to offer qualified and experienced mediators at substantially reduced fees thereby incentivizing parties to use the mediation process.
In 2023, after open bidding, LASC awarded an exclusive contract to the Mediation Center of Los Angeles (“MCLA”) to administer the “LASC Sponsored Mediation Referral Program” (“Referral Program”) for reduced fee mediations with a panel of distinguished and highly qualified lawyer and non-lawyer mediators.
BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH MEDIATION
OUR MISSION
The Mediation Center of Los Angeles (MCLA) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization committed to educating the public about the benefits of mediation. Our primary charitable goal is to build community through mediation and peacebuilding. MCLA’s educational programs focus on helping communities learn how to resolve disputes in a peaceful manner. Our work enhances understanding among diverse groups to manage problems and work toward lasting solutions.
We also work to increase access to justice by offering professional, experienced mediators to help individuals, businesses, and organizations in the greater Los Angeles area by resolving legal disputes before trial. This also reduces the burden on the courts and taxpayers having to spend time and money in court proceedings.
MCLA programs represent different multicultural, ethnic, religious, genders, generations, economic groups, and lifestyles. Emphasis is placed on the underserved, underprivileged, lower income populations at any educational level.
